Nord-Aviation,
Hamburger Flugzeugbau, and Vereinigte Flugtechnishe Werke
(VFW) formed Transall (Transporter Allianz) in 1959 to
develop a transport aircraft for France and Germany. The
prototype C.160 first flew in 1963. Initial production ended
in 1972.
With the end of the initial production run the
Transall group was also ended. Responsibility for continued
production of the aircraft went to Aerospatiale in France and
Messerschmitt-Boelkow-Blohm (MBB, now DaimlerChrysler Aerospace) in
Germany. Both companies are now part of EADS (European Aeronautics Defense
and Space). |
