      Navy/Marine Corps (1922)
In 1922, the Navy introduced a designation system that
identified the aircraft's manufacturer and mission.  The first letter
identified the manufacturer, the next the aircraft's mission.  For
example, the Douglas Torpedo aircraft was designated the DT.  The
second design by a manufacturer would add a number to the
designation...for example Martin's second observation aircraft was the
M2O.  This system only lasted one year before the Navy decided that
the aircraft's mission was more important than the manufacturer and
      reversed the  sequence.
At this point, there no aircraft on this site under this
      designation system.
