Bell P-63 Kingcobra
|

|
|
The P-63
Kingcobra was developed from the more famous P-39 Airacobra which it
closely resembles. Both the Airacobra and Kingcobra are distinctive as the
engine is located behind the pilot leaving the nose available for a
37mm cannon and two .50 cal machine guns.
The prototype P-63 first flew in late 1941. Over 3,300 where produced of which 2,400 were sent to the
Soviet Union under Lend-Lease. The P-63 was not used by the USAAF in combat.
