Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet

Designed as a point interceptor, the
Me 163 Komet used a rocket engine to climb to altitude quickly and glided back to base.  The prototype was first tested in 1941 but the did not enter operational use until 1944 due to engine and fuel problems.
